Good drink for a hot day outside because there's really not much alcohol in it! Were I to make this again, I'd skip the sugar (I already eliminated the sugar rim--the thought of it was too sweet!), and I'd either put the ice in the blender for a traditional frozen margarita or pour the drink over cubes. As written, we needed straws to get through the crushed ice to the liquid. The quality will really depend upon your watermelon, so I suggest tasting it first on its own. Might try other drinks before repeating this, but it was a nice unusual treat with a simple beef taco dinner.

Great recipe. I added in some fresh mint, too.

I pureed the watermelon and added 4 chopped Serrano chillies and left overnight in the fridge. I froze a small bag of cubed watermelon that was left over. I then sieved the pureed mixture and discarded the pulp and bits of chillies the next day. Used juice of one large lime and 1/4 cup simple sugar syrup instead of the measurements given and added the tequila, triple sec and the frozen melon cubes and whizzed up the drinks in the blender. They were delicious and the chillies gave a nice complexity to the flavour. Everyone wanted the recipe and they were hands-down the most popular drink at the party. A little bit of prep required but totally worth it!

I think this would have been much better had the watermelon been tastier. It was kind of bland and not too much taste. Sugar can't make up for the lack of watermelon flavor, so a low rating on this recipe isn't exactly fair. However the recipe we made up wasn't really too good. Be sure to get a good watermelon for this recipe.

CharlieLawrence, watermelon doesn't freeze well; probably why you couldn't taste it

I had such high hopes for this as I am a margarita connoisseur, but this was terrible. Maybe my watermelon wasn't very good, but there was not a strong watermelon flavor and instead it was just watery. I had skipped the crushed ice and instead froze the watermelon because I was afraid of the ice making it watery. I'll go back to the traditional margarita.

Loved these the first time I tried them last summer, and I still think they are great! We just pour over ice cubes instead of crushing ice - just as good. Also use 3/4 tequila.

I mixed the watermelon and sugar in the blender and made a puree out of it. After that I strained the puree and than added in the rest of the ingredients. Much better and less chunky.

These were great! I froze the watermelon first (also helps cut down on prep time). I also cut back on the sugar since the watermelon was so sweet (yum). Still think you do need to add sugar to bring out the flavor of the watermelon some more. Really tasty at the pool in the 100 degree heat!

Instead of serving this poured over ice, we blended it with the ice to make a slushy drink. It was much, much better that way.

I didn't like this at all. But I will say I use this recipe, minus the watermelon and sugar and add frozen strawberries for the best Strawberry Margarita.

The watermelon margaritas were a refreshing summer treat. They were very sweet - probably didn't need the added sugar in the recipe. The wedge of lime was a delicious complement.

These are so refreshing. They are perfect for a drink to drink all day on the boat or at a bbq. There is some foam on top usually. You can spoon it off. If you wait 15 minutes after blending, they are even better. I use 3/4 cup tequila.

I was very surprised to see the good reviews. I made this recipe and was very disappointed. I followed recipe exactly but substituted vodka for tequila. The problem was that the drink was very pulpy and had a very overwhelming flavor of watermelon. When I blended it, it became very frothy, but when I let it sit in the freezer, it seperated, the watermelon juice on top and the alcohol on bottom. Would never make this again, glad I tried it before serving to guests.

I love these, I am allergic to Tequlia so I used Golden Rum instead. I made several batches the night before my 4th of July party, froze them, and thawed them for about an hour before serving (the more alcholic the less solid they will freeze, these freeze pretty solid}. No mess, no fuss and no clean up the night of the party! Oh and no need to add ice!

These are AMAZING! We used slightly frozen watermelon, about half the sugar and Patron of course! I have a new summer party favorite!
